Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)
Thanks for the tip on the KBS tank sealer, Jim. I was aware of KBS, but only for use in painting iron railings, etc. I didn't know they made a tank sealer. I was planning on using Caswell tank sealer https://caswellplating.com/caswell-epoxy-gas-tank-sealer-car-tanks-up-to-20-gal-1-quart.html . It se...

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)
We had to be creative on getting the fuel filter off. It was not very dirty but had not been changed in a long time. You're fortunate to not apparently have too much, if any rust in your tank. My car has a 302 out of 68 Fairlane, so uses a separate in-line fuel filter rather than an integral one li...

Re: Building my 65 Comet
If you have the time to fool with it, it would be cool if you started another thread on the truck build in the All in the Family section. It would be interesting to see what you do with that one.

Re: New Comet Owner
Welcome aboard! You can get plenty of advice here, free for the asking. Start you a build thread in the 60-63 Comets section so we can follow along with your progress. Looking forward to seeing it come back to life.

If patience is a virtue, you must be a very virtuous guy. A lot of detailed work. Looks really good.

My vote is to lose them. Makes it look kinda droopy-eyed or sleepy to me, IMHO.Sugarmaker wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 3:47 amDo you guys like these headlight covers? I am not sure on them?

Re: Comet in Bakersfield
Looks like the RR quarter has some body work in progress, and the LF fender needs it. He says no rust, but something's going on there. Not a fan of the burp tank, either.

Re: 1965 Comet Caliente (little red)
Here's a tip that I use whenever I rebuild anything as intricate as a carburetor. Get an old egg carton or two and put all those small parts in the cells as you remove them. Keeps them from getting lost on the benchtop, and if you put them in the cells left to right, top to bottom as you do the disa...

Re: Front suspension question/direction
Changing from factory PB to manual will cause some issues at the firewall too, I should mention. each has a slightly different mounting location. some threads on here somewhere we can find if you go that route, always helps knowing ahead of time. If I recall correctly, doesn't the MC pushrod connec...

Re: Project save the Comet
Welcome aboard! :D Like Poboy said, if you're looking to make it a cruiser and close to original, you'll come out a lot cheaper sticking with the 6. A major conversion can be like pealing an onion. Hard to tell when/where to stop. Can't hurt to see if you can get the original engine to run. Won't co...

A coat of primer and paint would have been a good idea before bolting it all together.

Re: 61 4dr. 144 cu. engine Muffler issue
It should be a 16 gal tank. Did you install the new tank? Was it the same shape as the original? Are the muffler inlet and outlet staggered from each other? If so, you may just need to rotate the muffler on its axis to gain clearance. If longer hangers is the solution, you should be able to buy univ...
