Zinc info
Re: Zinc info
Way over my head! I glazed over about 5 minutes in.
Re: Zinc info
Fred basically he said too much of a good thing is not good. Use the proper amount for break in and be done with it.

I liked the one Lake did on “to fill or not fill” your oil filter when changing oil.
Hey Joe, what viscosity r u using with VR1?

20-50, Lee. I don't have a build sheet on the engine. It's a SWAG on my part

Re: Zinc info
20W50 VR1 for me and the 331. Broke it in and ran all dyno pulls with Driven 10W30 break in oil + comp break in additive. HV68 Melling pump was 65 PSI cold and off idle and 35 PSI at idle after 6 pulls with the oil pretty hot. I put another pint of the comp break in lube in with the VR1. Probably going to stop after first real oil change. Probably don’t need it since my motor is all roller anyway but better safe than sorry.

Re: Zinc info
Decided to stay with high zinc in the roller after I found some corrosion on a couple of rocker arms. Evidently the engine set up a good while after it was broken in. Still sits for long periods in very humid conditions.

Re: Zinc info
No need to add anything to break in oil such as Driven. The extra stuff will fall out of suspension and end up on the bottom of the pan...or other places. I had thought that to be true but saw the evidence when we cracked open a fresh engine due to oil leaks. The guy used Driven and Comp additive and we saw a fair amount of what I would call sludge that might be expected in a high mileage engine. Anyway,no break in oil needed with roller cam. Sometimes more ain't better.
