Every time it rains or washing the car, some kind of scum seeps out of the windshield molding and dries to a milky haze. Windex won't remove it, but I end up using a lot of elbow grease soaked in rubbing alcohol. Obviously, I don't want this to go on. Evidently, a previous owner tried to seal the windshield with some kind of "goop" instead of using a new rubber gasket.
Would any of the national windshield replacement providers, (e.g., Safelite), carry stock for a '66 Comet? My thinking is removing the windshield carries a big risk of breakage, especially with whatever sealant that was used by the previous owners, and I'd like to know there's a backup, (replacement window), just in case. Also, are Fairlanes windshields compatible?

Re: '66 Windshield
The windshield molding on the 66 may be held on with clips instead of being imbedded in the rubber as on earlier years. That being the case you could with a clip tool release the clips and remove the molding to inspect and clean and reseal if need be.
