9'' Rear End

Post by kcomet67 »

Does anyone know if a 9'' rear end from a 65 f100 will fit under my 67 comet? What all goes into that swap? Is it even worth the trouble to do it?

I wouldn't spend the time or money on a 9" swap w/ your current drivetrain, speaking from experience.
Only situation you would need it is big torque under the hood upgrade and a lead foot. Otherwise, you're just spinning extra mass that robs power.

Too wide, spring perches wrong place.
You probably have an 8" in the car which is a good rearend.
I'd rather do it myself if it's done right or not,,,isn't that what hotrodding is all about

It will be too wide. I narrowed one from a 79 truck. but it also has fatter tubes so the ubolts and shock plates need to be replaced ,also the leaf pads need to be moved

Plus the weight! I feel that lump throwing the back of the car around when I get on it in the twisties. If it wasn't for the boxes a parts and familiarity with it Id be lookin for lighter.

I believe your 8” should be plenty. Change out gears maybe, I put a Yukon 3:40 trac loc in our 8”, does fine. Unless you really plan on having a torque monster.
Did you ever contact Doug?

Im still running the stock 8 inch in my road racing Falcon with about 300hp. So far so good. I don’t plan on big HP or sticky launches so I’m happy with the lighter 8.

It would be fun to stick a big inch high power motor in that car.Super sleeper patina fest.
