Value of a 1967 Comet Capri

Post by Jedeka »

I have a guy that wants to trade a 1967 Comet Capri for some stuff that I have. I have only seen pics of the car, but know it has a stuck 289 engine and auto tranny. The interior is black and appears to be in decent shape. The drivers side rear 1/4 has a fair amount of rust along the bottom and may be into the trunk extension. The passenger side is not quite as bad, but will need some metal replaced. Trunk and floor is supposed to be solid. Any idea on value? Today, someone told him this Comet is a rare and now the guy is trying to re-negotiate the trade. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Pops, I am thinking the same thing. I told him it is not a big block car or a Cyclone. Trying to put a dollar value on it, but probably hard to do.

I own a 67 Capri with the original 289 2V. So it cant be that rare. You wanna talk rare? My Merc was bought brand new from the same town I live in, I have all the original paperwork on it, and the car is under 60k orginal. Tell your guy to come off his high horse.

Well, I'd beg to differ slightly. They only made 14,000 of them 45 years ago. Because they were 'just capri's' rather than cyclones I would bet you will find fewer Capri's are left than cyclones. I have had my car for 5 years and have met only 1 person that has the same car though I travel the state to shows n stuff.

It will never be as valuable as the sport models true, but rare? . Id bet fewer than 20% are still on the road. So define what is rare....

All the Merc's are rare because they're the black sheep of the breed. Some are down right ugly and I love Merc's.

RARE?OUT of all 64's owners that has posted thier vin number, mine is the oldest,it's the 277th car off the assembly line, that don't mean it's the 277th comet ,does that make mine RARE?NEXT is AUSSIE JOHNS,ours were built on the same day at the same plant, but mine was built 1st,so what does make one RARE.? If you had mine and another one just like it,everything just alike,is that vin number that important? thanks pop

In 2005 there were 247,420,000 + automobiles in the US. If yours is one of 1000 survivors - is it rare? ;). Rarity is less of a driver of worth than demand. If you own 1 of 1 but nobody wants it...is it rare? Yes. Is it valuable? No.... So getting back to the 67 Capri - it's rare given the number produced and number likley still around. Guarantee you won't see another everytime you go to the grocery store.

Jedeka it comes down to what it's worth to you! If you want to be like everyone else buy a mustang or a 64/65 comet. If you want to stand out go for the 66/67 Comet. ( that outta work 'em

My Merc was built in Loraine, Ohio, as I said it has the 289 with 52,849 miles. In the vin, it was # 550164 in the production series. It has power steering and a good old fashion A.M. radio that still works. Its yellow with black interior, but the years have not been kind. Its not nowhere near as bad as it could be though. I'm only the 3rd owner of this lovely piece f machinery. I had been going through a rough patch and had it posted on here for $1700 but no one showed any interest. Things have cleared up now and I will be keeping it.
