200 c.i. + C4 trans. ?

Post by joswald »

this might have been asked already but I'm new to the Comet world. Is it possible to mount a C4 trans to a 200c.i. six cylinder? If possible what do I need to look for? Thanks.

I have no idea, I know quite a bit about the little Ford six cylinders but absolutely nothing about the C4, always been a stick shift guy :P

Very early 200 (until around '65) had a small bolt pattern only, I believe in '66 (maybe some in '65) got a dual pattern bell housing pattern on the back of the block, in the early 80's the bell housing pattern changed again, you can recognize them by the low mount starter (250 has the same low mount starter).

They ran the 200 up until the 80's so there should be a transmission to fit it, a Maverick/Comet/Granada might be a good place to source the transmission just make sure the car isn't a 250cid because it will have a different bolt pattern (same as a SBF)

Hope that helps some.

See Ya,
Mike
