Front sway bar
Front sway bar
I’ve read a lot here about upgrading the front sway bar. The car has an 11/16 bar now. I’m trying to decide 1” vs 1 1/8” and also reliable vendors. Any suggestions very welcome. Many thanks.

Re: Front sway bar
go for the gusto ! 1'' is fine so 1 1/8th has to be better right? Well that's how I talked my self into it . same thing I told a friend trying to decide how big of new boobs to get herself. I mean not much difference in price ,right? & you olnly want to do this once!
any mustang vender like cj pony would have them ,it same as mustang (64, 55 & 66). think the one I got mine from folded up when covid hit ,,,it was mustangs unlimited
Re: Front sway bar
Yep I have 1 1/8 too. Great upgrade!
Re: Front sway bar
I had a 1965 El Camino long time ago I put a rear sway bar on really made it a lot better. I have read several places that the Comets are fine with a bigger front bar and don’t need a rear bar. Most likely that is all I will need. Not road racing just want to go around town in reasonable shape.
Re: Front sway bar
I had plans to put a rear one on but the big 1 1/8 in front keeps the car flat on any & all curves, like comethead said ''like it's on rails'' ! so a rear would just get in the way. after you put the big front one on you'll forget all about a rear one.

I need to stay away from here. Crawled under the car and measured mine.

Call John at opentrackerracing, he’s pretty knowledgeable on this stuff.

Re: Front sway bar
Has anyone ever measured the width of a stock ‘64-‘65 Comet sway bar compared to a ‘65-‘66 Mustang sway bar? The reason I bring this up is that a Comet front tread width and engine bay are narrower than a Mustang, which should make a Mustang bar slightly wider. Under normal conditions the difference is minimal ( the end links may be a slight angle) but I have found on my Comet the bar and the front strut rods are very close to each other. Also the “eye” end of the bar is very close to the lower body of the struts. (I have a strut style front suspension)

Re: Front sway bar
I wondered the same, Jim when I started looking @ the larger bars online. Most (if not all) vendors say it's an interchange.
Would be a good thing to know for certain before shelling out the money and disassembly.
I've seen similar claims about other parts that were not true or misleading.

Re: Front sway bar
Thanks for the shot, John!
I can get my thumb+ between my stock bar and the strut rod. No problem there.
I see what they did with the brackets to make it fit. What material are those thin bushings or sleeves?
Joe
Re: Front sway bar
I think poly bushings, but may be rubber. I cant remember for sure.
I'm not sure what you see they did to make them fit, unless you meant Ford. but I figure ford used the falcon bar on the stangs. they tried to use already in production parts from the falcon where they could.
