suspension replacement (front)

Post by tmorlan »

Gents, I own a 64 comet caliente and I have just pulled the stock suspension and am replacing most of the suspension upper, lower arms, springs, shock perches etc; What I ask is what are the torque specs on the bushings and other related equipment? Any help or places for references would as you all know would be greatly appreciated.

64 Comet suspension

Post by CALIFORNIA CALIENTE »

I have a 64 Comet shop manual from Ford.I read the entire suspension section and no torque settings are listed for anything, basically just tighten the bolts.I have rebuilt both my Comet and a 65 Falcon and that is all I did to both cars. All the bolts either have lock nuts or lock washers,so just cinch them down tight. I do believe that the bushing bolts should be tightened with the car on the ground or the suspension loaded.
If the suspension is hanging when the bushings are tightened they
will be preloaded when the car is lowered to the ground and hold the car up some .
