Internal door rust
Has anybody ever cut out a portion of the inner door to make it easier to take care of surface rust inside the door?
Re: Internal door rust
I cut a portion of the inner door to access the spot I needed to hit for door skin repair. Welded the piece back in no problem.
As long as the heat doesn't affect the door skin I would think you would be fine.

Re: Internal door rust
I treated the inner door and welded the back panel back in... this actually went better than I expected. This door is somewhat of an experiment. It’s in bad shape, but very little rust. The front panel is where all the trouble is.. I banged out the dents as much as I could. I know it doesn’t look like it, but it was much worse than the pic shows. Full of holes from pulling the dents from the previous owner too.. I was getting a lot of oil canning so I heated the metal with a torch and quenched with water...Old school style... Worked great... I decided to quit with the hammer and dolly because the oil canning kept coming back. Gonna do the rest with filler.. Need to finish grinding the welds and shoot some primer. More to come on this..
