New guy from Canada
Hello all, I don't officially yet own a comet, but this weekend I'm going to look at a 65 Wagon and I'm 98% likely going to drag it home.
Technician by trade and I've grown up working on English cars (Cortinas, Jags, MGs etc) this will be my first time owning an American V8, though the car I'm looking at has no engine/trans.
Hope to learn lots!

Good deal!
Hello from the Deep South, U.S.A.
Nice guys, here. A good place to start to get your feet wet and your hands greasy.

Welcome aboard! Hope it works out and you get the car. If you do, start a build thread in the 64-65 section so we can follow along. The more pics the better. Here's how to post them:

I am from the lower mainland of BC. I did get the car, she's definitely a little rough but saveable. Going for a bit of the rattier look, at least for now. Make it sound, make it drive, then worry about the rusty quarters...
I'll have to resize some photos and post them...

I have the headlight mounts but no bezels, I picked up the missing quarter window already and ordered a seal, and the tailgate glass is on the gate.
Original 289/C4 car, I'm told it has posi, my plan is a warm 302 that I already have, needing assembly, and an AOD that I still need to get

That'll make a really cool wagon!
At least you have the 'hard to find' parts. Post anything you will need in the future in the 'Wanted' forum.
I have a friend with a '65 404 4-door parts car. May be able to help you out.

I will be in need of a gauge cluster for sure, seller said this cluster went in a 2 door and the one from that 2 door was supposed to be in this car, but going through the parts inside it was not there. I'm finding those are a little hard to find

Don't know about the instrument cluster but I know the 404 has headlight bezels.
They will need some work because one has a dent. Not sure if it can be bent out.
Maybe someone else can chime in on this one. From what I can remember, they are made from pot metal (???)
It's been 25 years since I've owned a '65.

you have a ton of work in front of you,,,but it sure will be worth it when all done..........a SW makes for a great cruiser with family or friends.man a 4spd would be over the top,,,small thumpy camshaft with headers and nice sounding exhaust....it won't get much better,,,,best of luck on what ever route you take ............POP

Re: New guy from Canada
She's a little crispy, but WOW, the potential. That front bumper looks almost new! Finding an instrument cluster isn't too difficult, but finding a good one is. The UV resistance of plastics 55 years ago wasn't that great, and they tended to fade and become brittle. It will take some looking to find one that doesn't have at least one broken mounting hole. At least the instrument clusters and headlight bezels are common to all 65's, but do you have all the parts specific to the wagon? There weren't that many of them made.......5,226 404 wagons, and only 1,592 Villagers. Do you know which yours is? If the third and fourth digits of the VIN are 34, it's a base 404 wagon. If they're 36, it's a Villager. Looking forward to following your build!

It's a 404, I have the side emblems for it. I think I have the wagon specific stuff, like the gutter trim. This one has the power rear window, which I was able to power it up and down today. I've already picked up the missing side window, and ordered a new seal too.
