Nice, I'm glad you finally found the pair you've been looking for.
1965 Mercury Cyclone former drag car, 1971 Boss 351 engine, 4 speed, ladder bars, etc. Now returned to a street car.

Thanks for the positive comments guys.
I realise nobody will see the difference but it does look better.
Yes Johno the rim taking up more of the opening has the right effect.
Hey Jim the tire and rim are about an inch wider but there is also an inch more back space so clearances to the fender are still good, in fact an 8 inch rim with the right backspace will fit as well because of the spindle changes I've made,,, so,,,
I'd rather do it myself if it's done right or not,,,isn't that what hotrodding is all about

Changed the mounting of the ICM. Was in stock location but seemed to be getting cooked probably because of the smaller/hotter engine bay sitting on the aluminum bracket. I'm not sure how to extend the harness to remote mount it so I raised it up enough to mount it on a proper heat sink. The heat sink only had fins so I cross cut it to create a couple hundred heat extracting fingers. I can comfortably rest my hand on the ICM when the engine is hot. I've been thinking about trying a couple of thermoelectric modules between the heatsink and ICM next, we'll see.

50 years a caretaker of Sassy

Post by SASSY »

So early October 1974 was the beginning of this journey. Forget the exact date but I handed the keys to our 2 year old VW beetle and 500$ to a guy of about 18 for a 64 Comet that I'd seen cruisin the streets a few days earlier and fell in love with.
No garage, no tools or money and not much knowledge,,, good starting point!! Lol
It has been the focus of several heated discussions but selling was never a consideration although it did sit in a barn for 15 or so years.
The road insurance ran out yesterday so I spent the entire day driving over mountain passes, beautiful valleys, curvy little side roads, stopping for the odd pic and lunch in a park. Never got sore, or tired of the wind noise, exhaust note or blower whine. Stopped at the car wash cause bugs are attracted to Sassy too and as I towel dried it
I thought,, Great Day!

thanks for the cool pics Fred! So you can let it go uninsured during the winter? that creates a big hassle here. insurance companys dont like it & are required to inform the state that you dropped it,then the state sends you a letter & you have to prove it was out of service or sold it. I have been thinking of checking in on hagerty's or something different.

A lot of car people here insure for the road for 6 months or what ever then storage insure rest of year.
I think a car can sit uninsured here for 5 years before any kind of inspection, just need the paper work.
When I took my car out of storage in '99 after like 15 years I just had to prove it was mine and previously insured in that province, (Saskatchewan) but things have probably changed since.
BC is Gov't insurance but we can just register and get basic then get collision etc from like Hagerty.

So the work on it season has come to my garage.
I only road insured it to the end of Sept so time to get the jack stands out.
Alt had never been touched and there is a bearing rattling in there or the supercharger snout so doing them both.
A couple of injectors are sweating a bit and seeing as Marilyn can smell fuel once in a while I'm gonna pull the intake system off and do the orings on them.
Seeing as the intake system will be off I'm also going to polish one of the pieces that need it.
That will get me started but I'm having carpal tunnel release done on my right hand at the end of Oct so could be a while getting to it.
