Ryan's 65 Cyclone build
Re: Ryan's 65 Cyclone build
Hey guys, I also used the Dougs Headers, part # D66OYS. Once in, the fitment is great, clears everything. My Z-bar was custom made, so I can't speak on the factory z-bar. I can't say there were no choice words spoken when installing mine though! I had the motor lifted up and went in from the bottom with the headers to install, just FYI. Love the headers though, highly recommend.

Re: Ryan's 65 Cyclone build
Thanks, Roy! I wasn't sure if Ryan had ever test fit it all together yet. I agree with JOHNO, if no cussing required, they must be the ticket!

Re: Ryan's 65 Cyclone build
Cary;every car seems to be a little different. My friend had to lift and tilt his engine in order to get them in.He did have an issue with his Scattershield which required a bit of notching, luckily he fit them with the engine out! My 65 wagon was,as I stated, very easy,no lifting or tilting of the engine and I run a stock bellhousing so no clearance issues.I hear you on the Hooker Super Comps,I ran them for years on my 289,they fit, sort of,lots of cussing, hammering, notching of scattershield, bellcrank remodeling, more cussing, but they did "FIT"!!! ROY.

Ok, so I skipped a few steps on how it got to this point. But i'll add a few photos later of that stuff. No way I can match the step by step details of the build like Lou has. I appreciate the time he has put into keeping us up to date on his build. That's gonna be a sweet car.

Re: Ryan's 65 Cyclone build
Here are a couple pics of the headers Cary. SNUG, but the fit, and they clear everything. I'm using a stock bellhousing as well. Had a scatter can on the car at first, but had to notch it to clear a header tube. Then ran into other issues with it so I went with stock bellhousing instead.

Everything looks great! By the way I don't remember you doing and introduce yourself thread. Why not do one and let us know where you are from and a little about yourself and your history with Comets?

Re: Ryan's 65 Cyclone build
Thought I had done that last year. I remember a few guys saying welcome and asking me to post pics of my car. But I don't see that thread or maybe I don't know where to look for it. Anyway, will be happy to do so.

Re: Ryan's 65 Cyclone build
Looks great Ryan. We are using a Quick Time steel bell, so it will prove interesting! Talked to Peps last night, he probably will go with the Dougs. He ended up with some shorties that came in a package deal of parts, but we haven't fit test them yet, and if he doesn't like them, it would be a larger re-do to switch pipes again later than to just do it right the first time. Motor is sitting in line to be dynoed, but the shop had a brand X motor blow up and damage the dyno. (Line Racing, Summit pro-stock team, shop is about 70 miles from here)

Cary;my friend[the one that had to notch for header clearance] is using the Quick Time shield,so mock them up before installation is possible. No,a Chevy broke, the scrub guys ALL say they are bullet proof!!! ROY.
