I imagine you were making more power in those cool temps
Could you run tire pressure on low side to compensate for traction?

Yessir she was making some torque!
And yes that’s exactly what I had to do, I dropped the pressure until the tires felt like they were grabbing. It took a couple sessions.

Ill tell ya Jim…that one hurt me to the core!
I have a track day list of things to take with me- tools, spare parts, my helmet (!) and other things. I hadn’t added the GoPro to that list and of course completely forgot it. That WILL NOT happen again! It’s now on the track day list :D

A little update on the Falcon.
On the track Ive got the stock ‘64 120MPH speedo pegged hard on the front straight at 6500RPM. Im thinking the car has to be moving a little faster than that. At the last track weekend in October, during the last session of the 2nd day I achieved my best time ever- a glacial 1:55  measured by a friend standing in the pit lane. Not super fast but an improvement, and the car (and me) definitely felt faster. So in the quest to shave a little more time and just for scientific research Im gonna crank in the rev limiter to maybe 6700 or 6800RPM to see what that gets me.
With that in mind the old 120MPH sweeper speedo ain’t gonna work.
I dug up a decent 65 Comet cluster I had sitting around and took it apart. Sourced a tested 65/66 Mustang 140MPH round speedo from EBay and here we go!

All taken apart and getting cleaned up

New Mustang bezel and lens

Installed. I had to cut a crescent shaped notch in the bottom of the dash opening to fit the new round gauge cluster

Still need to drive it and see if it works. Since I have the Autometer aux gauges I deleted the stock smaller gauges in the cluster…all I need is the speedo.

Ok now for the nerd stuff-
The 65/66 Mustang GT and deluxe interior options were introduced close to the first anniversary of the Mustang: about March/April 1965. Both those options got you the round gauges with 140MPH speedo and “full instrumentation”.
Looking closely at the speedometer we can see the C5ZF part number one would expect on a Mustang part-
Image

A closer look also reveals a Comet C5GF part number tucked into the corner.

So if the 1965 Comet debuted around August of ‘64 (with the new for 1965 round gauges) and the Mustang GT/Deluxe option came out in April ‘65 then the so called “65 Mustang GT round gauges” should actually be called the “65 Comet style round gauges”. Looks like the C5GF 65 Comet round speedo got the 140 speed marks and was relabeled C5ZF for the Mustang. They weren't a new design, just borrowed from the Comet with new numbers printed for the Mustang!
Mustang dudes gotta give credit where credit is due- Mercury!
Unless my timeline is off

Couple things Joe
1) post that on some Mustang Forums, that outta warm things up conversation wise!! Lol
2) Im always impressed with the knowledge you have and the way you do things! We are totally opposite in that respect. I'd a taped my ph to the dash with it set on a gps speedo, gives you all kind a saveable info.
Book into a paint shop yet?,,,,,,,,,,,😁

Thanks Joe! Man I love Mustangs but I think Mustang people tend to think a Mustang is the be-all end-all FoMoCo product. There was nothing before the Mustang and there’ll be nothing after haha! Wrong!

I know exactly what you mean. I owned more old Mustangs than any FoMoCo but dropped 'em after I bought my Cyclone, just before Mustang was 'it' with the crowd. Never ran with the crowd, never will.

Comet speedo w/ a Mustang stamp in a Falcon, true Blue Oval! :D
