Mercury Truck
Mercury Truck
Saw this at the Folsom Prison car show today (yes, a car show at a prison. Very interesting...they searched the car trunk on the way out).
Super clean truck. Couldn't track down the owner to talk to them about it.

Re: Mercury Truck
Love that truck! You don’t see those too often.
I miss those car shows I used to go to in Santa Cruz when we lived out there in the 80’s and early 90’s.

Re: Mercury Truck
What year was that truck, Jim? 70's? I don't recall ever seeing a Mercury truck. I noticed the Canada tag on the front. Were they mostly a Canadian thing?

Re: Mercury Truck
I believe 67 was the last year of the Mercury trucks in Canada. Someone can correct me if I am wrong. I see one here in Michigan every once in a while but not often. Usually a mid sixties model, but there is one 67 I see often.

Re: Mercury Truck
It was a 1968 according to the temporary registration tag on the windshield. Must've been recently purchased. Too bad the photo washed out the rear license plate. It was orange and the number was 00-000.Jims65cyclone wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 7:42 pmWhat year was that truck, Jim? 70's? I don't recall ever seeing a Mercury truck. Re: Mercury Truck
Interesting. It definitely has a '65/'66 American grille. I was wondering if the later Canadian trucks received the updated grilles.
Does anyone know if these were manufactured in Canada, or only assembled there?
Fred?

Re: Mercury Truck
I was off by one year. 68 was the last year according to this website.

The need for a dual marketing network was eliminated with the Automotive Trade Agreement signed by the United States and Canada in 1965. The free-flow across the border brought the phase-out of the Mercury trucks by March 23, 1968. In the interim, vehicles like the Mercury ME-100 Econoline vans, pickups and mini buses were produced in Lorain, Ohio. The Ontario Truck Plant sent some of its product to the Northeast United States. Of course they wore the Ford rather than Mercury logos.

Re: Mercury Truck
You are right, 65-66 grille, but the bed is definetly 67-72. Weird combination of parts. Another guy near me has a 65 Pontiac Beuamount that is basically a chevelle with strange emblems and different tailights. I guess I am close enough to Canada to see some of these weird vehicles.Joe Travers wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 1:06 pm

Re: Mercury Truck
Good read
Thanks, Boss
Thanks, Fred. The last picture tells a story. Wikipedia, I do not trust but pictures, most of the time. Later grille was available for '67/'68 (?)
From all accounts, the truck looks like '65-'66 cab w/ '67/'68 bed.

Re: Mercury Truck
I believe that's a 66, just like fords. Bed too. if it was a 68 bed would have a bump down the side of the bed, like its nickname, bumpside,& I can see the area around the wheel well is like a 66.

Re: Mercury Truck
I was thinking '65 or '66 but not familiar w/ styleside bed for those years. I owned a '65 flairside for several years, always wanted a styleside.
Can't afford one now. Prices are through the roof!
Found a good '64 project locally but I'm too worn out to tackle it. Besides, I'm not too hip on straight axle suspension. Much rather twin I-beam.

Update: No thanks, would rather pick up another Ranchero than slam a truck.
