289 T5 flywheel
289 T5 flywheel
I have an older 302 In my 64 with a T5 and the T5 flywheel. I get a vibration just above idle until the revs come up. I assume this is the older 28 oz balance motor with the new 50 oz flywheel. My question is what 28 oz flywheel will work with the T5 bell housing and trans? I plan on installing my 65 289 A code when I finish it so I will have the same problem. I have a 164 tooth flywheel, would that work?
Re: 289 T5 flywheel
I don't know much about 302/289s but have a little experience with T5s I don't think using the improper balanced flywheel is a good thing and I don't think there is a specific T5 flywheel, so any properly balanced flywheel should work, you can't use the 164 tooth flywheel without the right bell housing because it is a larger diameter flywheel.
If I am wrong on any of that someone will be along shortly to set the record straight

Re: 289 T5 flywheel
You will have to buy a hybrid flywheel that has 157 tooth ring gear and is drilled for a 10 1/2 inch clutch that I assume your are running with the 50 oz setup. I bought a ford motorsports flywheel, but I think other manufacturers are making a similar setup. Which bellhousing are you using?
Re: 289 T5 flywheel
Forgot to mention that the flywheel must have the 28 oz imbalance.
Re: 289 T5 flywheel
Currently have the T5 bell housing and the cable clutch set up installed. I will look into a 28 oz after market flywheel.
