Haven't had my engine on dyno but close to you.
Haven't broken my 8". Running 8" BFG T/A radial 60s, not enough traction to break it.

Installing 347 because I have one from days gone by...
new 5 speed
~ 390 hp and 350 torque.

original 8" hold up to this??
Me and my son was at the local drag strip handful of yrs ago,,,there was a guy raceing his fox body stang,,,it was a SVO,those cam with 2.3 4cyl,,this guy had a 460 c6 in it,,,but it still had the 4lug 7.5 rear end under it,,didn;t have much tire,,he ran it all day and then drove it home....so how tough is a ford rear end?? no matter what size rear gear!!

Interesting.... Would like to try my 63 comet rear for a year to make sure all else is ok and maybe work on some stuff while I drive it.
Thanks for the feedback...

I have a 1984 mecury capri for over 20yrs,,it is a factory 5.0 5spd,but it came with that small 7.5 rear gear limited slip with a 3.23 ratio 4lug..before I went to a 8.8 3.73 LS ,,,I tried to tear that rear end up,,I didn't care,,,I burnt more rubber ,I dogged the fire out of it...I never tore that rear end up..I ordered from ford a complet brand new motorsport 8,8 3.73 LS and houseing less axles and installed it,,but I used the very same axles from the 7.5 that was factory installed and they are still in it....motor heads clutch headers shifter msd ign you name it has been since changed,,I ran it on the street ,drag strip. sticky tires ,,but those 4 lug axles are still in it....and I have the aftermarket traction devices under it,,OL POP has been meaning to post this for awhile,,,just now thought of it...good luck to all....POP

Since my last question I learned my inline 6 conversion has a 7" rear end.
My friend told me this would probably not get me out of the driveway is I was lucky...

So my next question is what rear ratio rear gears do you guy have and are you happy with it.

I have T5 trans and 347 with a cam rating 1800 - 6000 wherever tires I can put in the rear.
Right now they are 24.66 in height 185/80 13... Obviously I will have to get new rims and tires.
My guess is 3.89 will cover me for easy round town and long trip driving...

It'll get you out of the driveway. The rest depends on how you drive the car.
If you plan on dumping the clutch at 6K with cheater slicks.............

I think those are 7.25 rears, a common 6 would not tear it up I would not think , sounds like a small v8 might not either     but personally I would be more comfortable with an 8”, even a 4 bolt one like I have lying out next to the shed, it has 411 gears in it but they are way to low for highway driving IMO.but it was what I could get at the time  I like the 3.73. In my 8.8 I have now with the T5 combo should prove the ideal combo for me except leaving black marks constantly I will wear my tires down awfully fast, I need to get. Better at taking off

I prefer my rear tires to spin right now and not hook up for safety of not breaking anything,my set-up is the V6 T5 ,Explorer 3.73, track lock and 26”60 /series 16”rear tires seems like a good combo to me, the ‘96, T5 is a WC T5, rated at the same HP rating as the V8 WC with slightly lower gears.

Im running 3.55 gears and 28 inch tall tires, cruises right at about 3k at 70 and 2700ish at around 55, best setup in my opinion and still gets out of the hole like a bat out of hell.

I'm running 3.55 as well but shorter 24.7" tire diameter. Same height as original 6.50 x 13 but need to go 27" like original 7 X 14 Cyclone. Don't know if I'll get bump steer up front. 60 mph @ 3K. Crazy out of the hole but have to keep it on the old 2 lane roads. Higher rpms on long drives may pump too much oil to the valvetrain and cause problems. Hasn't lost any oil yet putting 1K on the odometer. She's tight and I'm happy.
