Me and my son was at the local drag strip handful of yrs ago,,,there was a guy raceing his fox body stang,,,it was a SVO,those cam with 2.3 4cyl,,this guy had a 460 c6 in it,,,but it still had the 4lug 7.5 rear end under it,,didn;t have much tire,,he ran it all day and then drove it home....so how tough is a ford rear end?? no matter what size rear gear!!McComet1963 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 12:37 pmInstalling 347 because I have one from days gone by...
new 5 speed
~ 390 hp and 350 torque.
original 8" hold up to this??
It'll get you out of the driveway. The rest depends on how you drive the car.McComet1963 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 7:58 pmSince my last question I learned my inline 6 conversion has a 7" rear end.
My friend told me this would probably not get me out of the driveway is I was lucky...
I think those are 7.25 rears, a common 6 would not tear it up I would not think , sounds like a small v8 might not either but personally I would be more comfortable with an 8”, even a 4 bolt one like I have lying out next to the shed, it has 411 gears in it but they are way to low for highway driving IMO.but it was what I could get at the time I like the 3.73. In my 8.8 I have now with the T5 combo should prove the ideal combo for me except leaving black marks constantly I will wear my tires down awfully fast, I need to get. If you plan on dumping the clutch at 6K with cheater slicks.............

I prefer my rear tires to spin right now and not hook up for safety of not breaking anything,my set-up is the V6 T5 ,Explorer 3.73, track lock and 26”60 /series 16”rear tires seems like a good combo to me, the ‘96, T5 is a WC T5, rated at the same HP rating as the V8 WC with slightly lower gears.Joe Travers wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 9:57 pmIt'll get you out of the driveway. I'm running 3.55 as well but shorter 24.7" tire diameter. Same height as original 6.50 x 13 but need to go 27" like original 7 X 14 Cyclone. Don't know if I'll get bump steer up front. 60 mph @ 3K. Crazy out of the hole but have to keep it on the old 2 lane roads. Higher rpms on long drives may pump too much oil to the valvetrain and cause problems. Hasn't lost any oil yet putting 1K on the odometer. She's tight and I'm happy.
