260 Tripower
Re: 260 Tripower
My Autolites are the same as the Holleys, in terms of dimensions. Been so long since I bought the K/N filter, I don't have the part number. If memory serves me. I looked up 390/406 Tri Power. Same air filter as used on the small block. Hope this helps.
Re: 260 Tripower
Finishing touches. Throttle return spring and bracket. Adjusted idle mixture screws and idle speed screws according to factory manual. Synchronized carbs so all three full open at same time.
Now that the weather is warm and dry I have a large backlog of outside chores to do so will be a while before I can install it.

Re: 260 Tripower
Looking real good! Are you sure having all the carbs open at the same time will not flood the engine with fuel? I had a Ford tri power with Holley carbs on my ‘71 Comet GT, 302, mild cam, headers, 4 speed, I set it up with progressive linkage and it worked perfectly. I think having them set up to open in sync would have hurt performance and fuel usage. Same on the Boss 302 in my Cyclone, two Holley 390’s set up with progressive linkage for the primary’s and vacuum for the secondary’s. Again, works seamlessly, and 17 mpg on the hi way.
Just my opinion.

Re: 260 Tripower
I wasn’t very clear. It is progressive. What I meant was that when the middle carb is full open the end carbs are also. Had to fiddle for a while to get there. The end carbs start to open at about 1/2 throttle.
Re: 260 Tripower
Do you recall the list numbers for your Holley tripower carbs? Curious what worked well for that engine.A/FX wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 2:31 pmLooking real good! Re: 260 Tripowe
Here is an article that talks about the two different factory systems, mine had the 265cfm center carb and the 255’s at each end, I remember buying a brand new center carb for less than a rebuild kit. When I sold the system I gave the new owner the old center carb in the package. I should have kept the set up but I didn’t have an engine to use it on, and the money helped fund the Cyclone build.pfleuret wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 4:16 pmDo you recall the list numbers for your Holley tripower carbs? Re: 260 Tripower
Nice work and progress but that 260 doesn't really need that amount of fuel IMO... But it looks So cool !
Shelby perfected the 260/289 induction system with a F4B intake, a mild Cam and a the 465 CFM Holley. I duplicated this on my 260 & 289 setup. Runs great!

Re: 260 Tripower
Definitely a question that needs to be asked. I’ve done a lot of reading on this. Back in the early 60’s Ford sold a tripower setup specifically for the 260. It had two Holley 2868 carbs front and back and a Holley 2867 center carb with choke. Both with 1-7/16” throttle bore and 1” venturi. What I have here is two of the original 2868 carbs at the ends. The center carb is a Holley 3485 which has the same 1” venturi and 1-7/16” bore as the 2867/2868 carbs. I’m using the original #53 main jets in the outboard carbs and original #47 jets in the center carb.
So the setup is the same as what Ford sold for the 260 60 years ago. I think it should be ok.

Re: 260 Tripower
I follow this guy on FB,he rebuilds holley carbs, or makes them new again I should say, but only for old fords. He had some good detailed tips for 3 2's.

Re: 260 Tripower
Thx for the reference! I need all the info I can get. Can’t read the whole thread guess I will finally have to get a Facebook account.
Re: 260 Tripower
It's a video. I wasn't sure if people who weren't on FB could see it or not. He was talking about a set of 3 2v's that came in said to be running too rich ,he noticed they had non original bowls on the end carbs at first glance & found a couple things that were causing it.
Re: 260 Tripower
Ok I found out how to turn on the video. Duh. Lots of info. I did change the fuel bowl on the center carb have to go back and compare the sight hole level with the original.
