260 2x4

Before getting started on the 3x2 project I got a couple of old Carter AFBs model 3826. They are from a 1965/66 Buick Special with the 300ci V8. Frequently referenced as 400 cfm, the smallest AFB. Then I got an Edelbrock F28 manifold to go with them.

Now I’m working on the 3x2 setup but I wanted to get the 2x4 ready to go also. Didn’t take much.

Pic1- fuel log. Probably has no practical advantage but I like the old style. The clamps are designed so cannot dig into the rubber h/t to A/FX for the reference.

Pic2- progressive linkage. Aftermarket options are clunky and expensive so for a few dollars I made it from scratch. The upper pivot point on the front carb is for direct or 1:1 linkage.

Pic3 and 4- air cleaner. Nothing is made for the old 4-1/8 carbs especially not in 2x4 configuration. So I made a base plate from 1/8 aluminum. I like the look of a round air cleaner rather than oval. Filter element is 14x2 and the top is cast aluminum from Summit.

It all looks great, Pat. Where did you get the end pieces for your linkage?

The right hand piece is from Summit they call it a “throttle linkage quick disconnect”.

The left hand piece is about 4” of 1/2” round aluminum. I shaped it with a drill press and a WWII era milling machine I found for $250. But could also be done with a drill press and hacksaw and files. Happy to provide better photos if that would be useful.

Just wondering where you got the ends. I've mulled making linkage for mine using 3/16" heim joints and all thread.

I like 2x4 setups.
I would put one on mine ,but it would cost me power over my funnel web. I would like to find a tunnel ram though . I have a set of 1850's that just need kits.

Here is how I did the linkage on my Cyclone, the progressive linkage is reproduction, the accelerator cable is from a Fairmont. I fabricated the fuel log.

Jim, I've noticed that a lot of the hardware on your car is golden color. Did you have them anodized?

Jim,
I wanted something a little different so all the brackets, nuts, bolts, etc. throughout the car have been plated in “yellow” zinc. When I did the car in the 1970’s I chrome plated everything but I became tired of the look and the maintenance keeping everything polished. The zinc does not last forever so eventually I will have to freshen it up.
