I prefer a bearing to a bushing. either the ford bearing or a standard bearing you get from your local bearing supply house.

I always run a bearing on all my cars.

Comes down to preference,I have used both but I prefer the bushing, seems to put up with more abuse! JMO , ROY.

At first I was leaning towards a bearing then I was looking at pics of them both & the thought of failure crossed my mind. If the bearing fails it looks possible it would chew up my trans shaft. I really wouldn't like that. the softer bushing would be less likely to eat the shaft, was what I was thinking ,so that is why I asked for your opinions.

So has anyone ever have a bearing failure??

The ones I have seen fail have always been bushings and they chew up the input shaft. Now I'm not saying these were on ford's just on stuff that comes into my shop. Almost all new cars use bearings these days and they work really well. keep in mind they usually are spinning at engine speed unless you are stepping on the clutch, but I have had several trans that we fought to remove since the bushing had failed and was chewing the shaft. I have never seen a bearing do that though I'm sure someone has.

Bushing for me. Since the bronze is softer than the input shaft the bushing should wear first. I don't think it is really a big deal either way. Brian

Have a bearing in my comet, have a bearing in my 84 5.0 mercury capri, been in there for several years ,so far so good,,,but you never know one or both may fail the next time they are driven,,so I reckon it's really what a person perfers....my 1966 390 f100 has a bushing, are you able to tell a difference if there is no failure?..... pop

I have never seen either fail, but like I said it comes down to what YOU prefer. I'll stay with a bronze bushing,NEVER had any issues! JMO , ROY.

The fact is they really see very little abuse since they only spin when you are on the clutch which is usually at a stop so as was said using either one will work.
