The Comet is back on the ground. The rubber bushings for the rear leaf spring put up a good fight. I had to cut the outside lip about 1/2 off (I used a PEX cutter for water lines) and then grind down the upper shank of the shackle to get them to press into the body of the car. This board (R Jones) definitely helped with ideas of how to get them in. I would trim, grind, silicone spray, test fit and do it again. For some reason, they fit easier inserting from the tank side; not sure of why. The Eaton Detroit leaf springs were spot on; easy fit and nicely made. You have to put a little bit of load on them to get them to flatten out to reach the rear shackles.

So the set up is the following:
Ford 8.8 Narrowed to 56.5 with 2 inch wide spring perches (5 deg; 43 center to center) -3.73 LSD
Currie Spring plates and U bolts- Summit
Stock shackles (Rock Auto)
Eaton Detroit leaf springs and bushings with a 1 inch drop
New front mount bolts (see earlier post)\
Its a lot of work to get it to come together. Waiting now on the adapter for the 8.8 for the drive shaft.

I like the stance of the car with the 1 inch lowered springs (even on both sides now too). Have to finish running the brake lines and torque everything down and then its off to the muffler shop.

Hi Mike.

I purchased some small adapters from the Flop Shop Offroad. Waiting on them now. See below. They are used for Jeeps and looked like they would work for Comet. I'll let you know how well they work.

Quick update. Pushed the Comet out to clean it and the garage up. Been finishing up fuel lines and waiting on some brake hoses to finish the Ford 8.8 swap. We celebrated my youngest daughters graduation from high school yesterday and the Comet was a big hit with her cousins and you cant even drive it. They really like the vent windows and the wheels. Got horns installed and tag light this weekend along with working on the drivers door. The actuator wants to jump out of the channel when the window is rolled to the top. Also having an issue with the horn contact grounding randomly so I have to take it back apart. I really like the stance with the new leaf springs. Stay safe.

The Comet is moving and stopping using her own power! I scared my neighbors for sure but she is moving. I drove it out of the garage for the first time. I leaked a little more brake fluid on the garage floor than I care to admit but I think I have it fixed. Still lots to do. I noticed the horn would blow when turning on the left turn signal.

You are getting there, I guess a few little spills along the way won't hurt anything :P

It is great to see some of these neglected Comets getting back on the road.

No left turns. I like your thinking.

I have some Gremlins that are starting to show up. Heater fan didn't seem to be working but I will start troubleshooting once it gets back from the Muffler shop. She is loaded up and will be headed to Wedgewood Muffler in Zebulon NC (near Lizard Lick) tomorrow morning. Planning to go with 2.25 inch, Flowmaster 40's , and dumping the exhaust behind the rear wheel. The 40's are smaller than the 50's and I'm thinking will fit better underneath. Getting closer.
Has anyone done the Shelby drop on a Comet? I am thinking the drop works for these early Comets but wondering how much of a difference it makes. Any input is appreciated.

Stay safe

Got the Comet back home yesterday. I really like the sound of the Flowmaster 40's. It has a little rumble. Unfortunately, with the exhaust on, now I can hear the exhaust leaks near the manifolds. One was a bolt hole so I plugged it. The other I am still looking for it. Couple of pics. Stay safe.

A 3'-4' section of garden hose makes a great stethoscope for find sounds on a motor/car. I have a mechanics stethoscope & it hears TOO good, but the garden hose only hears what is near the end of it.

btw, the car is looking great !!! :D

I like the bologna cut on the ends. Looks steam-lined. 8) Got plenty of clearance above the springs? Looks close in the photo.
