Generator issues

Post by Rhino200099 »

When I baught the car the gen light was on. I asked the seller what the issue was and he said the voltage regulator. I replaced the regulator and light went off and ran good. Turned the car off and the generator was smoking I thought maybe it was rebuilt and just some lubricant was causing the smoke. But it smelled funky. I disconnected the battery and herd an arc. Touched the battery cable back to the battery and it arched again. Then I heard a click and no more orc or smoke. What happend?

might had a brush not seated ,,,as long as you don't get crazy with adding a big stereo and all that stuff that draws hard on the battary and electical system,,,,the gen will serve you well...I still have one on my 64,,,always keep a good battary installed,,,never have had any problems out of mine.....good luck
