Seatbelts for '62

Post by 1962Comet »

So, my '62 didn't come with seat belts and it's something I want to add for safety. I've seen repro belts, but I'm wondering if I'm going to find a place to mount them under my seats or am I going to have to drill some holes. Anyone else add belts to their 62?

Thanks,
Dan

Dan,bet you have to drill holes so I went out and measured on my 64-----I opened door laid down tape mear on door sill...30 ins from frt toward rear, right by side sill, theres a hole ;best I recall.stright across on side of tunnel hump kinda midway theres another hole, that puts the holes a bit behind the front seat not under it..my comet came with belts but a friend came by my shop while I had my comet torn apart redoing it and borrowed them.....he never returned them, and I for got all about them(big goof up on my part),at this point in life,,I see how important belts are ,,so i've been on the look out for this so called FRIEND,but its been so many yrs ,,,don't know,,these meas, may not be right on the dot for you ,,but they will get you in the ball-park....good luck ,if I can help.....post it and I will...pop

Pops,

Thanks for the measurements. It won't happen until spring, but I'm making a list of stuff I need to buy and seat belts is on the list. So, I figured I'd ask the question. I'll be taking out the seats and putting in the flooring so I need to plan ahead where the holes go.

Hey Pops,

There are threaded seat belt anchor holes already in the floor for the front seats. So I'm in luck. I guess they made it easy for the dealers to install belts at the dealership. Not sure about the back yet, as nothing looked obvious from underneath. Now the question I have is what did the standard seat belts look like. I see reproductions out there and some are the Chrome Lift Latch Type and I've also seen the single round button type, which seems newer to me. Is the latch type the correct style?

Thanks,
Dan

My '63 has the chrome latch type..

Not sure what's correct, but they seem to fit nicely.
