70 for a cleveland is different than any 69 hose. I have also had pretty good luck using 1967 Mustang 390 lower hose. I'll try to swing by some time with a few hoses I have and hold them up to your setup.

Re: Root's 64 Cyclone Build
Last week I finally decided I should figure out wheels and tires and the clearance I have to work with and finalize a rear end width to go with the new 3rd member.
I started by trimming the fender lips down to be roughly 5/16” from the inner fender. In that state, with the stock 8” (58.37 inches wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface) that gave me 5” to the lip and 6” to the leaf spring. 11 inches overall. Which put a 4” back space 15x7 wheel perfectly centered. There aren’t a lot of cool 4” backspace wheels other than a Crager S/S and I didnt want to lock myself into that.
By narrowing the rearend 1” overall this really opens up the possibilities of using 3.5”, 3.75”, 4”’and 4.5” backspace wheels, if you have long enough lugs and use wheel spacers. So that’s what I did.
I ended up placing an order for a 57” (axle flange to axle flange) housing, axles and new 11” drum kit from Quick Performance. So now I just need to figure out wheels.
The rear will be a 15x7 and a 235/60-15 in a drag radial should fit nicely @ 9.5” section width. Front will be some kind of skinny front runner. 4.5” or so.

Mag 500 15 X 7 has 4.25" BS, if you can dig it.J.Root wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 1:32 pmI started by trimming the fender lips down to be roughly 5/16” from the inner fender. Re: Root's 64 Cyclone Build
Not really my schtick but I will think about them. Need to be able to get them in a 15x4.5 front or there abouts.
I did ask QP to add a second hole 1” forward on the spring perches so I can move rearend back if I want. I need to have a driveshaft made anyway and hopefully there is enough thread on the Calvert Heim joints… just in case ya know. But 28” tires in appropriate width are way less plentiful than 26” tires.
I plan to put these on the rear

Not sure on the front yet. This thing isn’t meant to be a high speed corner carving road race beast so I am up in the air on bias or radial fronts…
One of these I reckon

Ya, Mag 500 more of a road wheel.
Ever think of trying a wide steelie w/ those cheater slicks? Maybe a TTD on front like a period correct vibe?

I was thinking of this one but don't want to hook up the car.

Re: Root's 64 Cyclone Build
Started thinking last week that I should plan out winter work. I have a few things I want to get done.
1. Roll bar. 4 pt? 6 pt? Pre fab? Make my own pattern?
2. Interior chrome piece refinishing - think A pillar / front window inside trim, maybe get all of fbd pot metal and the dash plastic sent off for refinishing
3. Wire engine bay, figure out where to put the battery and associated stuff needed if in the trunk.
4. Reupholster the seats and do I just do the buckets or the rear bench too? Will the rear seat even be useable with a bar? If no rear seat what do I do for a tray in place of the seat?
Lot of things to do / questions to answer
.
In the meantime I pulled everything out of my small storage trailer that had been holding parts because I sold it to a friend. The front seats and front fenders and some other odds and ends were still in there. So, that just kind of led to stripping the front seats down. What a nasty mess! The drivers side bucket back had at some point over the last 25 years become home to a chipmunk or mouse or something and was chock full of nest material, empty walnut shells, etc. NASTY!
An hour or two later I had everything stripped down to the frames. Surprisingly the foams are still decent. Burlap was gone and the passenger seat upright was looking pretty nasty.
First thing I noticed was I have a broken seat spring on one base and one that is yielded on the other. The back of the drivers seat needs a bit of patch work and I am missing one of the back pivot bolts…. A bag of sand through the sandblaster cleaned them up enough to repair them and then shoot with rust encapsulater.
So the question now is… anyone know where I can source the two springs and the pivot bolt? My searching this week has been fruitless.
Pics of the carnage… or as I was calling it at the time - the 7th circle of Hell… just happy no rodents came scurrying out to nibble on my digits.

Re: Root's 64 Cyclone Build
Wow those are pretty ruff ! I hope you get new foam because the old is not very comfortable. I think it's mainly because the seats are so flat. I'm thinking about changing mine to some procar buckets I have on hand. do you have good tracks? they are really hard to find!!!
Re: Root's 64 Cyclone Build
Tracks look fine. I need to clean them up and see if anything needs to be replaced.
I have also been “pricing” interior components.. if I just buy all new stuff from foams to covers to door panels, headliner, dash pad, carpet, a few trim pieces - from NW Interiors I am very close to $4k - holy moly.
I plan to replace the foams. I am sure I can sell the old to offset cost since NEW is $275 / bucket. Door panel sets are $800. I have my originals. I just spend $54 on 2 yards of red heat pleated vinyl and will buy a 1/8”x4x8 sheet of Masonite from Home Depot for $13 and see if I can recreate these for 1/8 the cost of new. I reckon I will need to pull the backing off and remove some of the padding. I’ve pretty much done everything else on this thing with my own two hands so what learning to make upholstery, right?
Onward and upward!
I also have my original headliner and boards and see I can buy moon crater vinyl by the yard for about $20… sure beats $400 for a new headliner….

I was actually considering a pair of pressed steel rims for actual slicks... But for every day driving I think some kind of aluminum mag is in my future. I have screen captured a lot of side shots of 64's with various wheels and keep mulling over them. But I just dropped $1500 on seat covers and foams today with Jake @ NW Interiors so wheels and tires will need to wait a while.
On another note though, I received my door panel pleated vinyl today. Need the UPS man to deliver some work related stuff so I can get out of here and visit Home Depot.
Re: Root's 64 Cyclone Build
Working on the seats today… anyone need any seat base side springs?
Re: Root's 64 Cyclone Build
Pretty cool! Where’d ya get the seat springs?
Pricing Comet interiors is scary! I went down that path and quickly got out!

Re: Root's 64 Cyclone Build
Amazon. Couch zig zag springs. The ones on the seat are 9 gauge but it was going to take a while to get those. 8 gauge was readily available so I just went with those. I replaced both on the drivers side base as one was broken and the other was yielded and saggy. Probably end up doing passenger if I have time this week.
