I am trying to sort which fuel sending unit is correct for my 1965 Caliente... as per the below, there are at least three plausibly correct parts..
Which of these is suitable for use in a stock gas tank?
- C4GY-9275-A (vertical float) for ~$75.
- C8ZZ-9275-CR (horizontal float) for ~$35.
- CDZZ-9275-A (horizontal float) for ~$20.
However, Mac's also lists an alternative part C8ZZ-9275-CR with fitment data indicating 1960-65 Comet (and 1960-65 Falcon). Per Mac's product image, this part has the float barrel oriented horizontally relative to the filter. Price: $33.99.
Meanwhile the Ford Car Master Parts Catalog indicates part number CDZZ-9275-A for all 1965 Falcon models (sans station wagon). This part number is widely available such as at NPD which indicates fitment matching Ford part numbers 9275-1A, C5ZZ-9275-A, C5ZZ-9275-B, C5ZZ-9275-C, C5ZZ-9275-D, C7ZZ-9275-A, C7ZZ-9275-B, C8ZZ-9275-A, C8ZZ-9275-B, C8ZZ-9275-C, and C8ZZ-9275-D. Per NPD's product image, this part seems to be identical to the second Mac's part - it has the float barrel oriented horizontally relative to the filter. Price: $19.95.
I have always had a troublesome fuel indicator and would really like it to work correctly... so I am highly motivated to get this right.
I just pulled the sender out of my tank. My sender is almost certainly not original (modern metric hex head screws were retaining the hose clamps... ). Mine has the Float orientated horizontally (e.g. it is like the less expensive ones).
Question: Are all of these workable in the '65 or should I really be shelling out the cash to get the correctly oriented float?
(P.S. I am replacing my CVU and will carefully test my gauge in addition to pulling new wiring including carefully checking that I've got a solid chassis ground on this circuit...)
