8" diff, tee bolt/fitting - 64/65

Post by iglooman »

This is the bolt holding the tee for the L/R brakes and mounted on one side.

Can someone tell me why this goes right into the axle housing and is like a fill fitting but the fill plug already exists at the back?

thanks!

Ok I'll answer my own question now that I found some reference.

Seems it's a vent. I didn't know they had to have this. And the video below the guy says this type is for a single exhaust (2min 54sec) and that dual exhaust is different. No I just have to find out what the dual exhaust one looks like :)

That is a vent and you just have to run the hose away from the exhaust pipe. I installed a vent with a cap which does not use any hose, but if you plan on running thru creeks then you need the hose

As for the brake hose/tee that gets bolted down by that vent bolt,,,some of us who raised the car, moved the rear end back or both in my case use a hose for a 70's ford 1/2 ton truck. it's basically the same thing but longer. Also nice to have the extra length if running dual exhaust for more room.

'63 but yours' should be similar.
Fuel line tucked under the exhaust pipe, clamped and tucked into subframe to keep water out of the lube.
