My current 65 Comet project

Hello. I’m new to the forum. I want to thank you for welcoming me. I would like to share a few photos of my build. It was an original rust free car from Arizona that I acquired and was just going to make a mild driver. Well that plan didn’t work out. Next thing you know. This happened. Lol . It’s getting a 347 and a 5 speed. I built and dynoed the engine at 618hp. On 91 octane fuel. I do all the building and development work myself. I’m hoping to be driving it next summer. tip; be gentle with those caged nuts on the pedal support, they break off terribly easy .

Looks like you have the mustang ''heater box to cowl'' seal on the heater. it will be too short for your comet. one for the comet is over 50 bucks. you can get another mustang one for under 10 plus shipping & glue it to one you have .
works out good & easier to install. 2 together is a tad too tall (which is good) but it will smash down & helps hold a tight seal because the heater & cowl hole doesn't line up perfect with each other. you can open the little door & feel up in there & push it back to fit better if it partially lays over after you install heater box.
here's a pic of mine, 2 stang ones glued together, after being installed for 3-4 years, still reusable.

Interesting on he box to cowl seal. My 64 has a flange with some clips that attaches to the seal and then snaps into the cowl. My car didn’t have a seal that I recall so I guess I should fit it all up and see if I indeed need a second seal.

I might have mentioned this in the past so forgive me if this is repeated.
I used a Mustang rubber seal on the heater box, to fit the Comet cowl I welded a sheet metal ring to the Comet cowl that accepted the rubber seal. With the heater ring and the cowl ring the rubber seal is captured and cannot move. Sure beats using the expensive, flimsy rubber that the Comet originally had.

A few more pics of my project. The 347 is ready to drop in. It’s a pump gas deal obviously. It made 618 hp and 497 lb ft on our dyno. Idles like a pussy cat. Lolol.
