1964 Steering Wheel
1964 Steering Wheel
My steering wheel is shot. It has cracks everywhere. Are there any stock steering wheels out there that are in decent condition?
Re: 1964 Steering Wheel
You can actually repair a pretty bad wheel I and others here have done it I am pretty happy with mine and I need to get a stitch on leather wrap for mine but haven’t measured it yet , might be something to do while I am sitting in the house avoiding the heat and needing to. Continue exercising my bum hand.https://youtu.be/4260X8E-kr0
see Ya,
mike
Waiting on the wrap still, if it fits right I will post a link back for anyone else looking for a proper firing wrap for a '64-'65 and any other that uses the same or similarwheel

Re: 1964 Steering Wheel
mine was cracked up all over & brittle so I completely encased the hoop in epoxy,& fixed cracks at the spokes base;
after I took 5'' out of the hoop to make it smaller;
a lot of sanding;
filled in the finger grips & made the hoop fatter,here it is with one side done;
painted
then covered it in leather;

Nice work, John!
Did you keep the 8 ball and toss the T-handle?

Thanks Joe! I'm still running the 8 ball but if I toss anything it is wore smack dab out or big & in the way. t handle needs a heli coil but I'll keep it,wall hanger. Lavron would toss something before I would!Joe Travers wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 8:49 pmNice work, John!

Not much hope for you, then. Now if Pop tossed something you'd keep, then you're totally hopeless.

In my dreams I have one, plus a nice temperature controlled shop with a lathe and mill some big metal breaks a nice welder and a big screen tv a few recliners maybe and a fridge with snacks fully stocked in case I never want to leave and why would. You?(internet was included there)
Neighbor stopped by yesterday evening he lives in Arkansas but has property here adjoining ours. Wanted to see the Comet so I started her up. For him and let him soak in some of that cammed six He said hehad had a 64 more door with a 170 auto, says he wished he had. Kept it said he liked the lump lump, lump of my cam choice and certainly does not sound like six in there
Guess it impressed him, he was back today and brought a friend, maybe I should start charging admission He was asking me if a 250 was a bored out 200 and I told him no it was a factory stroked 200 (long stroking 200)
See Ya,
