Re: 64 Falcon Track Car
Hey John I ordered that bar clamp you linked. What the heck was I thinking!?! My roll bar isn’t 2 5/8” it’s 1 5/8”
Thanks amigo!!
Looks like I’ll be on the track this Sunday. It’s gonna be kinda cold but who cares haha

Old friend wanted to ride in the Comet. Told him to hold on just before I pulled out on the main drag. Big dummy had to lean over to look @ the speedo right as I hit 2nd. Almost threw him in the back seat

Ok I’ll try to mount it for a better view of the tach.
Maybe do a trial run this week but we have rain coming.
Sunday for sure.

I just realized this GoPro 9 has voice control!poboyjo65 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 10:15 pmJoe I tried mounting the camera once on the back window, didnt like it. couldn't reach it .need to be able to turn it off & on to save batteries & not record a bunch of boring film, then be dead for the good stuff.
I was just looking at my attachments,I think the velcro wrist strap would be great for a roll bar. it's plenty big,& has a pivoting base with lock.I saw the same one today in some of the cheap ebay package deals if you dont find a clamp on one like you want.
After hearing ole Skydog run I had to get mine out for a short romp.
So if I do mount it back where I can’t reach it I can turn it on and off, and start/stop recording with my voice. I’ll be on the track Sunday so I’ll have some time to experiment.

I was thinking about that Jim. I guess ill have to start it recording before I fire it up. The engine is truly deafening out there on the track. I wear ear plugs so I can think

Hey Joe, can you run open headers @ Willow Springs?
Might scare the Gila Monsters

Yes! It’s one of the benefits of being out in the middle of nowhere
Ive heard some tracks have a decibel limit for the cars. One of the tracks I’d love to run in Northern California is Laguna Seca but there’s some stupid people that moved in around the track and they complained that it’s too loud. A racetrack
Kinda like the folks that buy a house next to an airport then complain about how loud the airplanes are

In the 90's people started building fancy houses near the race track, then complained about noise, now no open headers at Waterford Hills raceway and time constraints on top of that... No more late night hot laps.comethead wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 2:55 pm

Seems ridiculous to move somewhere where it’s inherently LOUD and then complain about the noise.
And worse to try to change that place to conform to your likes.

If a new car with a “cat back” exhaust can exceed 90db I can’t imagine what noise level my open header’d old Falcon is at!

Re: 64 Falcon Track Car
We've had some farm land developed into housing tracts around here, and the new residents complained to the county about the smell coming from the adjacent farms. Goes to show, you can't fix stupid.

At the drag strip we go to,,,as long as sun is shinning ,,open headers are allowed,,,come sunset,,time to bolt on some type of mufflers,,,they don't have to be quiet ..just as long as your trying to keep the roar down.....I didn't have to ,but yrs ago I ran a 2chamber flowmaster turned around backward on my dirt track car,,,,still on the old car behind my shop..we have race mufflers on OL rusty and they won't ever be removed,,,, ain't enuff gain to do the work of removing and then puttin "em back on,,,pop

Stupid isn't restricted to any country either.
There was a 1st class oval track built just outta Vernon BC.
Last time I went by it there were storage containers and heavy equipment parked on the racing surface! Ya up a hill across the highway,,,,,, stupid lives.

Welp…went to the track on Sunday.
It was 29 degrees in the morning (Fred would be in shorts and a tshirt and basking in the sunlight ) and it warmed up to about mid 50s by noon. First couple of run sessions weren’t so fun. Car was skating around tail happy and nearly launched me off the track. I couldn’t get the tires warmed up enough to get any kind of grip until about noon.
And…I forgot my GoPro at home
So I learned that:
A- Ill never do a track day in December again.
B- Ill never do that small track again because my car isn’t set up for it.
C- Ill never run a track day with newer cars again.
Bright spot for Sunday was my last session around 1PM. It was warm and I got behind a 71 Alfa Romeo (the only other “old” car there) that was tearing it up nicely. It took all I had to stay with him in the corners and definitely had him outgunned in the straights. It was a fun 20 minute battle that made it all worth it.
Car ran great!!
Pics to come…but gosh dang it no video

I imagine you were making more power in those cool temps
Could you run tire pressure on low side to compensate for traction?
